Yoga and Meditation Center of Montclair

General TESTIMONIALS

  • This is "yoga for the rest of us". You don't have to be a human pretzel to do real yoga and that's what they do at this studio. Great, experienced teachers just trying to get you moving, in touch with your body and your authentic self. Check it out.

  • I have been attending the Yoga and Meditation Center of Montclair for more than 10 years. I love many things about it: the small classes and personal attention, excellent teachers, and the commitment to regular classes (vs drop-in) so that your teacher really knows you and your body. I also love the option of taking Yamuna Body Rolling and/or meditation classes. You might pay a little more for yoga at the YMCM, but it's well worth it!

  • Susan Morton and her excellent staff have been teaching and inspiring me since 1987. Susan is a true pioneer in the field of yoga, meditation, and wellness. The Yoga and Meditation Center of Montclair is not just another yoga studio where you drop in and take a class. It is an educational institute for in-depth learning about yoga and yogic philosophy. Susan is also adept at personalized therapeutic yoga which is phenomenal for people in pain.

  • I have been a student here for almost 20 years. During this time I have visited other yoga studios while traveling but I have never found any teacher that compares to the teachers at the Yoga and Meditation Center of Montclair. Their knowledge and concern for each student is unsurpassed. It is wonderful to practice yoga in such a beautiful studio knowing that one is under the care of such experienced professionals.

  • I've been a "regular" for over 20 years. Our teacher is wonderful—compassionate, funny, and serious about hatha yoga, chanting and the body, mind and spirit. Each week is different. We focus on a region of the body, or work our way up to a challenging asana. The space is great--and there's plenty of it. After a while we all know each other, too. Plus it's easy to find and there's plenty of parking. Come check us out.

  • I have been attending yoga classes at the Yoga and Meditation Center for close to 3 years now. My husband and I decided a few years ago that we wanted to start yoga, and were lucky that we stumbled upon the Yoga and Meditation Center online. We signed up for a beginner class, and loved it from day one. We have worked our way up to the intermediate class and enjoy the new challenges it brings. Our instructor has been studying and teaching yoga for well over 20 years, and her love for yoga truly shows in how she teaches her classes. She works with you individually due to the small class sizes and always ensures that everyone is in the proper pose. Not many yoga studios/YMCAs have teachers who work with you individually during the class and know the strengths and weaknesses of your body. She also teaches you the many principles of yoga and meditation to make you a well rounded yoga student. If you live in Northern NJ, there is no other place to study/practice yoga!

  • I have been studying with the Yoga and Meditation Center of Montclair for approximately 35 years, and I credit Susan Morton and her teachers for helping to keep both my body and my mind strong and flexible--especially important now that I am in my 70's. The classes are designed to meet everyone at his or her own level and to provide just the right amount of challenge and support. The small class size guarantees individual attention and helps each participant build a personal practice.

  • I have attended classes at the Center for several years. The teachers are fantastic. They seem to know exactly how to communicate and assist with the poses so that you get the most from your practice. My fellow students are an eclectic bunch. They make it so much fun to come to class each week.

  • I came for the meditation...stayed for the yoga...and learned to how take the teachings out of the classroom and into my daily life. The teachers are truly NJ's most knowledgeable and compassionate. You are not just 'another face in the crowd' here. In each class you are recognized as an individual with specific strengths and limitations and are instructed on a one-to-one basis. In my book - the best!

  • I am now in the 6th year of successfully operating my own studio. Susan Morton and Susan Wilson are incredibly generous with their knowledge and support, at the same time allowing each student teacher to develop his or her own unique approach. It has been quite a privilege to tap into the quality and depth of their experience I would highly recommend this training to anyone who is NOT wanting to become a “one size fits all” teacher!

  • I have been a fitness educator and personal trainer for over 25 years. The teacher training with Susan Morton and Susan Wilson had a highly positive impact on both my personal practice of yoga and on my teaching. Learning the proper alignment of postures in detail as well as anatomy helped me tremendously with my own personal time on my mat. Professionally this training has added a deeper dimension to my teaching. I am a more knowledgeable and careful instructor . . . recently I’ve been enjoying tremendously rewarding work on yoga classes with seniors that would not have taken place without this training. . . Instructions were thorough, clear, and thoughtful in a professional and completely supportive atmosphere. I would highly recommend this wonderful experience to anyone seeking to deepen their personal understanding of the practice of yoga and especially to anyone who is thinking of teaching yoga.

  • The yoga teacher training with Susan Morton and Susan Wilson was one of the most transformative experiences of my life. Not only did it give me the tools I needed to become a good teacher but the impact of the training on my own practice and life in general was truly wonderful. Going deeply into the analysis of poses, anatomy and the history of yoga added tremendous dimension to my teaching . The supportive atmosphere made the learning process a joy to be a part of. I recommend the training for anyone wanting to teach and/or deepen his or her own experience and practice.

  • The Yoga Teaching Training Program transformed my life in a very profound way. The program was conducted in a loving and nurturing environment. The class size was small and each of the participants got lots of caring attention from Susan Morton and Susan Wilson. I would highly recommend this life-changing experience - take advantage of it!

  • I cannot imagine a more effective teaching duo!. . .Susan Morton and Susan Wilson shared so much of their combined wisdom, experience and years of study. They inspired us. . . we listened, we worked, we laughed, we learned . . . I highly recommend this Yoga Teacher Training experience for anyone who wants to deepen their intimate knowledge of yoga, create a superb foundation, build their level of expertise and open their eyes and hearts to whatever stirs within. Yoga styles and fashions may come and go, but this teacher training is a viable path to a long-term relationship with classical yoga. I consider it an honor to have studied with this team.
