Exploring the Seven Chakras

How we view ourselves is highly dependent upon our cultural conditioning. Here in the West, we think of ourselves as a body, mind, and personality and we have no model for looking at the Subtle Energy System that creates and permeates the ever- changing aspects of ourselves that we think of as permanent. In China, the model is the Chi Energy that infuses the body and flows along 12 bi-lateral meridians. In India, growing from the ancient yogic view, the Subtle Energy flows in the Seven Chakras, wheels of spinning, vital energy which lie along three subtle channels in the spinal area.

Meditation gives us profound practices, including specific sounds (mantras) that release obstacles, bring equilibrium and harmony to the microchakras that surround the chakras, vital centers that support our well-being and spiritual evolution and lead us to the experience of deep stillness, completion, and oneness.

In this course, we will explore the 7 chakras and microchakras that affect us on every level. Through both study and practices directed at opening specific chakras, we'll consider the following questions:

  • How do chakras contribute to the health of the body, mind, and spirit?
  • What causes chakras to function efficiently and what causes impaired functioning?
  • How do early conditioning, beliefs, and habits of thinking effect the openness or blockages in specific microchakras?
  • What is a "chakra mind?"
  • How can we develop awareness of the chakra minds?
